Bio:
Formed in the fall of 2003, Dirty Sweet found an immediate audience of rock loving fans just months after their inception, touring as main support for Jimmy Eat World. Their reputation spread further when British magazine NME referred to the group as, “the mighty Dirty Sweet”, and declared the band was, “getting ready to go mega with their skuzzy, ass-shaking rawk n’ roll”. Winning the award for “best new rock and roll band” at the 2005 San Diego Music Award, as well as their tireless performances to packed houses - including a month of sold out shows at Hollywood’s legendary Viper Room in the fall of 2006 - further encouraged the group to begin recording their debut, …Of Monarchs and Beggars.

Part of the band’s initial success was due to the musical pedigree of its members. Rhythm guitarist Mark Murino and drummer Chris Mendez-Vanacore had played together in a string of groups, including the indie rock band Jejune. Bassist Shaun Cornell anchored the rhythm section for the popular roots-rock band Convoy (whose remaining members would later form Louis XIV). Lead guitarist Nathan Beale joined Dirty Sweet after leaving the Detroit based Moods for Moderns and moving to California.
In lead singer Ryan Koontz the group found a completely untapped resource. Possessing both a unique vocal style and natural stage presence, he was the obvious choice as the group’s frontman.

…Of Monarchs and Beggars, their debut album, proves from beginning to end that there is still hope for Rock and Roll. While some critics have written the genre off over the past two decades, Dirty Sweet has embraced the raw, hard-driving style, of Rock’s golden age. While paying tribute to their predecessors, Dirty Sweet has found a way of creating something new.

If there is one thing that sets Dirty Sweet apart from other bands of their generation it is the songwriting. The group has a knack for writing great hooks. Their melodies, like the driving rhythm and organic harmonies, are immediately infectious. The songs are all written as a group, with each member contributing equally to the Dirty Sweet sound.

While their self-produced debut shows off the versatility of the group as musicians and songwriters, it’s in their live performance that you see what is truly unique about Dirty Sweet. Very few bands can equal the mastery of their recorded work in concert. But, because of their exceptional musicianship and dynamic interaction with the audience, Dirty Sweet consistently brings the perfection of their recorded work to life on stage and injects it with raw live appeal.
